Believing in something false doesn't make it true.
Hi all,

Sorry but some body doesn't know how to calculate power.  Look at the current readings and simple math tells you what is going on.  The battery is putting out about 18 milliamps.  R2 is getting about 13 milliamps and the other 5 are going to R1.  the circuit is simply dividing up the current between R1 and R2.  18 in and 18 out.  No OU this time.  I have seen this circuit before and the same mistake was made the last time I saw it.

Just because it is on YouTube does not make it real.

The two resistor measurements are current, not power.. they do add up total current.  You are correct there, but what is interesting is the calculations of power/wattage.  Those are the calculations that show OU.  The voltage both measured and calculated across R1 is 10.5V.. 10.5V*13.2mA=138.6mW.. 1.5V*18.3mA=27.5mW.

I think I'll give this circuit a try.. simple enough.

I can't find the Ferrite Core Toroid 3E5 TX20, but did find the TX25.. close enough.

These TL20s are the correct size and may work just as well.

You can still find the IRF510 FET, but getting the NTE2382 equivalent.

Magnet wire 28 AWG or .315mm

I was thinking about the circuit and one possibility is that the extra power is coming from the function generator connected to the gate of the FET.  If the gate was powered by a 555 or other oscillator connected to the battery, this would increase the amperage on the battery and possibly make the circuit non-OU.  Another problem is how would one loop the circuit.  Just some thoughts.

For pulsed circuits it is incorrect to take the average value of current, then use this value to compute power by I2*R or V*I.  Looking at the waveforms in his web site it appears that he did just that. He should of course have sampled his current waveforms, squared the value of each sample, then taken the average value of the squared values taken over a full cycle.  His reference to Naudin is confusing as there is nothing to find on Naudin's site concerning this device.

It's not as complicated as it may seem...
"Silly" Zoltan should have done his homework. It's really sad because he sim'd this too and had all the tools available to do proper power measurements. Apparently he did not know how.

I sim'd this up back in 2011. Not sure why, but my sim resulted in lower currents and power by a factor of about 5x.

Anyway, the Pin for mine was about 5.8mW, and the Power in R2 is about 5.2mW average. No OU here.

Thanks for confirming no OU.

It's like Déjà vu all over again.
