Well I just had to post this.
I have just had my two monthly electric bill (69 days) of 356,07 euros. My normal consumption per day is around 9kw, this bill runs at 27,14kw a day :D and we were away for nearly two weeks of this period C.C
The amount they say I have used is 1000kw more than normal, I have checked the reading now and the last reading of the electric company, and it works out to 9.07kw/day, which is normal.
It seems that one of the didgets (thousand didget) of this 20 year old meter has moved from 3 to 5 in the last billing time.
I have done all the calcs and it is obvious that that is what has happened, exactly 1000kw too much.
I have complained that the meter is wrong and has to be changed, my history of consumption is always around 9kw per day, over 10years!!!!!!!
I am expecting, from what I have heard, that I have to pay the full amount, 3 times my normal consumption, and they will say that the meter is ok.
On top of this I will have to pay for one of their engineers to come and change the meter >:( I have been paying rent for this meter for 15 years, I have bought several new ones for the amount I have paid for rental every two months >:(
If I do not get satisfaction, I will be putting this in the hands of my lawyers, more cost, I am totally fed up

Mike, I feel your angst. Things like this are one of the reasons we all need to renew our efforts and get focused on some truly viable alternative energy research and development.
OK guys, Of all the devices out there, which three horses would you pick that you think will win the race? Which are viable enough to be worth the investment of time and money?
I bet on solar, like mentioned before here:
http://www.overunityresearch.com/index.php?topic=2420.msg39301#msg39301
my installation of 6Kw (24 panels of 250W) has delivered after 1 year and 8 months almost 10Mwh (9600Kwh).
The electric company transfered 564 Euro to my bank account last week being the amount of money for delivering
surplus electricity over the last year to them.
It feels good too.
After solar, wind energy will be next and third, very promising this new salt water/fresh water mixing, see:

Itsu is likely correct, since the technology there is proven, i.e. it won't be a waste of money. I spoke with Ed Hemphill not long ago and he is reaping the rewards for his grid-tie solar system.
For fun though, I'd like to see us understand how an inductor really works and put that to use. Something that would fit nicely in an RV would be my first choice.
I guess I should have asked the question differently, but I appreciate Itsu's solar setup and the link to the RED system.
I was hoping to limit the answers to what
"we collectively are seeking to find a presently UNTAPPED source of energy" to quote Physics Prof. I would further add that it should be within the reach of the average builder, not some multi million dollar venture capital scheme.

Smudge has done a lot of original and innovative work in this area. It is all in his documents scattered throughout the forum. They are worthy reads.
Maybe we should collect them all into one place.

It is strange isn't it, the institutions tell us they care, they are our friends... our providers. However given the chance they will leave you for dead in a new york minute, that is and always was their nature. I have seen a lot of BS in my life and I don't get mad or lose control I get even. I would use this as inspiration to see those self-serving psychopaths on an unemployment line... I will show you the same consideration you have shown me. I have no remorse for what I will do, I will destroy their livelihood for the sake of those who are oppressed by them with a clear conscience. You see when people do not learn their lesson they never learn---they must be shown the error in their ways. It all comes full circle and what does not kill us makes us stronger and more determined.

I would think cold fusion has the best odds ATM, but I believe the TPU has a great hidden treasure. Most think it was just a ring of batteries, but the loads seem far to great for that to be true.
There is a third that I have been witness to, and that is going to be introduced very soon, although im not sure as to where ?

Tinman, I agree, the TPU is an enigma and very worthy of study. Despite my having spent nearly nine years attempting to understand it and studying it in great detail, I feel I am no closer today than when I first saw it in 2006, but I do know what does not work because of my numerous failed builds and experiments. At this time, I lack the insight to crack the code on that one, but not for lack of trying.
Agreed, cold or warm fusion also hold great promise, there is more than enough energy locked in atoms to solve the planets energy needs forever. We just need to be more creative in getting at it.
Regards, ION
As regards tapping an "untapped energy source", the front-running horses IMO are:
1. Cold fusion (aka transmutation), which is quite a change for me from ten years ago; but I've seen a lot of intriguing data in the last decade. The problem seems still to be replication - along with lack of willingness to allow the DUT to be freely tested and replicated (i.e., greediness). The next ICCF conference will be in Italy next month - expect some announcements at that time.
2. Collapsing electro-magnetic fields, evanescent waves, etc.; and here my bets are on tenacious individual builders/researchers rather than on any particular DUT. Careful measurements will be needed... My apologies that I cannot name all those researchers, but the list would include Slider, ION and Tinman, Smudge, Itsu and Lasersaber, Peter and Lidmotor. Someone might very well surprise us also, like Mike or Chet, woopyjump, TK, EMD ... and others...
I do think that SOMEONE somewhere will achieve both a technical breakthrough AND the window/ability to get the DUT out to PEOPLE in a big way, so the breakthrough can hardly thereafter be squashed...

On that note I mention Rossi
I am convinced that Rossi's biggest problem is hiding just how
simple his process is. and of course his greed.
We don't have that problem here [greed], I mention Rossi obviously
due to the recent Global activity attempting to replicate his claim.
Here we are in a position to do the same and also add some of
"OUR" NMR and NAR experience to this attempt , similar perhaps
to what Konstantine Balakiryan [Solar Hydrogen Trends] calls his
symphony in his 1300 times Cop claim ?
Or perhaps Blacklight power is singing a similar tune ,or Laser power systems
with their 500 pound thorium powered engine .
As a group we have great potential huge assets [people] and willing hands...
I believe we need to do something unusual for us, perhaps take it up a notch [the commitment].
A formal open source group with a public profile dedicated to aggressively
investigating LENR
as well as replicating and experimenting.
To be clear ,I feel most of what is presently being done and discussed at
this forum has merit.
its just that LENR is really standing out with published test results
showing obvious potential.
and its very simple to experiment with.

I agree Chet, a group if it is to be taken seriously needs to migrate from a forum approach to a dedicated web portal strictly for this one project of LENR, and in a highly professional manner.
A short list we need for the public group:
A good chemist and / or nuclear engineer
Theoretical think tank input
A person that is good at machining and fabrication of small parts, welding, brazing.
Someone familiar with laboratory procedure for mixtures etc.
Someone good with data logging procedures and hardware and software measurement protocol.
Person or persons to build the electronics of the test setup
A public relations person
A fundraiser
Someone to develop and run the PR portal (Web design) also to arrange for formal and informal meetings via VOIP or video conferencing etc.
There may be more, this is off the top of my head, and one person may wear more than one hat, it may not need to be an overly large group. Any thoughts anyone?

I am interested a great deal in LENR, it shows real promise as an environmentally friendly power solution, however I am not sure what parts I would play in such a group.
I also find it difficult to point out others errors with the simple act of referencing known scientific fact, without offending them. I point it out anyway, that's just who I am, but as a consequence I am penalised for my lack of tact.
I make no apologies and I work for the betterment of Everyman; I demonstrate that creed with my actions, not with my words, unlike many.
I agree that LENR would be a great focus.
Because of Rossi's secrecy [greed Chet says], we don't know many details. Indeed, there is no protocol that I know of for the p-Ni device - that if you follow these steps, you will always get excess heat. I think that's a proper focus, developing that protocol of steps for reliable replication; a formal group might follow, or could be developed in parallel, but recalling that we do not have the protocol yet. I would prefer to see the protocol first - I mean, the secrecy is so opaque that we don't really know if Rossi has a working device, AFAIK.
I think we also need someone to keep an eye on what the LENR crowd is doing - they have conferences and forums. It's quite a diverse group, some claiming deuterium is essential and that d-d fusion is occurring, others saying, No - protium (H also p) works just fine, and its p-Nickel fusion (or other). Others like Iwamura say that transmutation is the key, and he looks at d-Cs and other reactions quite different from d-d fusion!
Note - "excess heat" is another example of a verboten term (evidently). So the LENR crowd has started using "anomalous heat" instead, referring to the same thing. They are so diverse and often competitive (that greed thing again) even cut-throat... we can do better I think. I hope.

All I want to see as a big picture protocol is a DUT that can demonstrate an impressive stable constant power output, for a low rate of depletion of energy dense high mass fuel. Impressive run times measured in decades would be nice. Minimal to no environmental impact a priority, we gotta try and save what we have left..
The various communities can argue about what they think is going on as much as they want, until a stable continuous power output is demonstrated and independently replicated.. it is just speculation based on a few targeted experiments.
As noted earlier,
QuoteI do think that SOMEONE somewhere will achieve both a technical breakthrough AND the window/ability to get the DUT out to PEOPLE in a big way, so the breakthrough can hardly thereafter be squashed...
In addition, that FIRST -to-achieve individual or team will be rewarded, I will work to that end, so that they are not left "popular but penniless". I've done three very successful crowdfunding efforts (totalling about $28,000), for example- quite amazed at how well these work. And I gladly would do one for the first-to-achieve in this field. There would be much more, especially when it is clear that the pioneer is not a sell-out to BigOil (etc).
At the same time, $ is a corollary but cannot be the goal (IMHO), if we are to get this pioneering breakthrough to go viral and serve humanity.
My top picks are for present day work:
1) LENR : potentially very large output in a very small package for a very long time. The physics is there, just need to make it go.
2) DeGeus patents and Smudge papers: very interesting ideas to research further.
3) Steve Mark TPU or AVEC: I'm just not done with this one yet. One of the few devices in the last 30 years or so to catch my eye and have staying power. If the complete history were to be absorbed by everyone there would be many on board.
Still on my list:
Hendershot, Coler, Moray Cook parametric research, some hho for future research.
At the bottom of my list or don't want to waste any more of my time because they can't at present even meet the one watt challenge at OU.com, even after thousands of replications and refinement:
Anything connected to B****ni bought some of his books in the 80's. Experimented and nothing there to my knowledge. Pure vapor technology.
Harvesting energy from ambient EMI , electrostatic, or as others call electrosmog. The return is way too small even with large antenna's and tuned circuits and the best rectifiers, IMO, there are only milliwatts to be harvested. This territory has been rather well mapped out. Please someone prove that I can power my home with this, or even win the one watt challenge. Prove me wrong, please.
Playing with tiny motors that can spin for a long time (but no useful work can be harvested that can in any way exceed power input). These haven't been shown to compete or come close in any way to conventional, state of the art motors.
LED circuits that produce dim, unusable light for a long time from a precharged capacitor. I have a good bright flashlight that works.
Since it has recently been brought up: The Searl device: This purported device has been talked about far too long and too many excuses for no present devices being replicated. In my mind, the veracity or faulty memory of Mr. Searl is in question. When the so called inventor can't replicate his own device after so many years, for me, red flags go up. Slick videos will not make it real.
Disclaimer: This is just a crude list and is only my opinion, Not meant to discourage others from working in these areas if they see a benefit.
Matt
If I could be convinced that the Kapanadze or smaller Akula flashlight units actually worked without hidden power sources, I would dedicate all my free time to those devices.
The requirement for ground wires on the Kapanadze devices raises suspicions, same for some of Akula's stuff.
To be convinced, I would need to witness the devices operating in my own environment away from any hidden sources, and be allowed to check the ground wires carefully.
I would not need to know the operating principle but must be allowed to disassemble the device to be sure there are no hidden batteries (Akula). I can figure out the operating principle from that point with a few scope shots.
Given that chance, I would not only endorse and promote the devices (for whatever that's worth), but would invest to the owners money and my time towards their future development.
I have played with these circuits and have not found any anomalies.
I therefore challenge Akula and Kapanadze or any of the teachers of their craft to claim the prize money sitting on this site and at OU.com for the One Watt Challenge. Surely if one can teach the art one can also build it.
Make a unit that will light a one watt lamp continuously, with witnesses and following the prize rules, not by LED's which light on next to nothing or slick youtube videos that look more like magicians performing.
AFAIK, the "teachers of the craft" do not have a working device, even though they make claims to knowing the secret and are good at pointing people in various directions. They have not demonstrated that their words are meaningful by their own actions, that is: they have not built working devices to demonstrate that their teachings are sound.
I still hate typing (and flying)

Akula and Kapanadze devices are a bandwagon device--every one is on it.
No repeatable or replicated effects other than by those that live where?
Why are we trying to run before we learn to walk?.
Why dont we increase the efficiency of what we have, before we try to replicate rubbish on youtube.
Some of the brightest minds exist on this forum, and yet not one !so called! OU device has been replicated with the results to go along with it-->why is that?.
Why not look at what we have around us first, and improve on that-->EG,the ICE.
Apon Chets request,i will be sharing some modifications to an ICE that raises the mechanical to fuel ratio to over 50%. Now,if we take the heat output of an ICE,we see that most of the energy within the fuel is converted into heat, and most of whats left is turned into mechanical energy-->a small amount is lost- out through the exaust-->unburnt fuel.
The answer is to simply add water.
Here is a big moan of mine.
We have the latest Akula LED unit-Blue LED's this time O0.

Wesley is convinced the Kapanadze device is real. I get the same feeling from T-1000. After reading Professor Hooper's work, I tend to think there is a realistic, experimentally backed means to further investigate this device or devices having similar attributes. If someone wants to send me a gift, it would be to personally go visit someone that has built a functioning replica, I would even find a translator if need be. All I would hope for is to come home with the operating principals firmly in my grasp and the first-hand experience of seeing the real thing in operation. With that under my belt and short of being hit by a bus, I can guarantee everyone reading this would soon know how to make such a device and see it for themselves, up close and personal. I would do that for the team, even though I hate to fly. Yes, it would be icing on the cake for me.
I like your boldness and your approach here, Matt. So WHO would you like to visit, and WHERE is he/she located?
From Tinman:

Did you ever see the plate spinning routine. Every now and then the performer need to give the wobbly stick a little extra kick to keep the plates spinning.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k44uoVm0lPI
Now imagine those plates are spitting out pennies the faster they spin, and you have the answer.
I think Stefan is a good guy and an honest researcher but he is caught in the jaws of his own creation.....the advertising on his site pays him according to the number of views....maybe not a lot , but enough to pay for the server costs and a little pocket change to boot. I know his site gets a lot of views when a topic takes off..
So IMHO he has to give the sticks a push now and then to keep the interest going and the pennies coming.
Does anyone have an idea of how this works and what the approximate return might be?

I was thinking today about small motors, how the run times are getting longer and longer -- and smaller test devices in general.
There was a comment against continuing to study such small devices, but I would disagree - if this is a path that a researcher is pursuing and enjoying and learning as he/she goes, I would encourage continued effort. My reasoning is that it might be possible to achieve a widely-replicated self-runner with a small device sooner than with larger devices.
A small self-runner is worthy then of efforts to understand the energy source and might well be capable of scaling up to higher power regimes. Further, a small "toy-like" device might be well suited for widespread replication and testing.
So I'm all for continued testing of devices - both small and large - where a self-running device is the goal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1uZEqI2dSU
There are two 3 phase alternators, one for generator, second for motor, the magnetizing current goes over step down transformer for current amplification (comment: and phase angle delay) and the right angles must follow for rotors positions where impulse is transferred on peak voltage from generator to motor coils..
Anyone fancy to try this out?

I agree AC. I use a similar method and with the exception of the medical system it has almost always worked for me. It also helps to check your local laws and if it is legal record all conversations with complaints departments ect. covertly if possible. I do it all the time. And the mere mentioning that I have a recording of a particular conversation often gets people very anxious or angry, they usually try to tell me recording them without their knowledge is illegal, so then I must explain to them why it isn't in a particular situation. Our only laws concerning the recording of conversations is covered under the telecommunications act. and it is not legal to record phone calls here without telling the other parties, however if I use a device that is not a telecommunications device (ie. not a phone) then it is perfectly legal to record any open conversation I like between me and other people, I have no desire or need to record anything but conversations between myself and other people face to face. Which is why I like to go see the people face to face. In some places it is ok to record any phone conversation as well, in other places consent is needed.
Often when threaten to complain further up about something and mention that I have a recording to back up my assertions the matter gets sorted and no one seems to want to even hear the recordings or confirm their existence.
When dealing with public servants I remind them that they actually work for all taxpayers, even the prime minister is a public servant and is employed by the taxpayers, most people tend to forget that and take the mindset that most public servants have much more authority over us than they actually do, and in fact ultimately all public servants are employed by the taxpayers. In a way even a private employee is usually actually employed by the customers. It gets to the point where a lot of public servants feel powerful because no one stands up to them. Needless to say these public servants who try to wield false or fake powers get maximum resistance from me.

It is strange that so many people tend to worship politicians or leaders as if they were more than just another person doing a job and I have never suffered from such delusions. It is no wonder so many politicians are narcissistic if not psychotic due to the fact everyone starts acting like babbling fools in their presence. Personally I have met with some fairly powerful and influential people and always found them to be quite ordinary and I treated them with the same respect as any other person.
What is even more strange is that some people have accused me of having a problem with authority however I see it as just the opposite. I have no problem with authority because I understand they are simply people doing a job as they see fit however I do have a problem with spineless fearful people doing everything someone else says without question. I think these people should have their head examined because when they worship authority without question they empower them to think they can do whatever they want which always leads to big problems down the road.
I see it as mutual respect and if they will not show me the same respect I show them then we have a problem and I'm going to let them know how I feel... it's pretty damn simple in my opinion.
QuoteAs for taking the utilities off the house and using whatever else to run the home we must remember then that we are then liable for any damages resulting from any mishaps to do with said power plant ect. if a visitor is electrocuted by your free energy machine wired up to your house you could end up in jail.
Here in Canada it's a little different and I used to know all the residential/commercial inspectors by name. We may install anything we want so long as all the right permits are approved and the system is inspected at which point liability falls on the municipality who made the inspections. In fact one inspector said he was being sued on an almost weekly basis for approving things which had problems down the road or for not approving things which did not meet code requirements... tough job. Basically I can install any alternative energy system I choose so long as the connection ie inverter system to my house/grid is UL/CSA approved and everything meets code requirements. So they really do not care whether the energy system is a genset, a solar panel array or a big metal black box siting on a concrete pad behind my garage. When the inspectors slap that sticker on my breaker panel they are saying the system is approved and meets code requirements and they assume liability by approving it.
Again we see this theme of mutual consideration and no authority can say I have inspected this system and deemed it to be safe and meeting code requirements however "I assume no responsibility for my decision", because that would be irresponsible. In any case if I did install a system without approval of course I would assume liability as any responsible adult should. Which begs the question, why is everyone so afraid to assume responsibility for their actions?. I do electrical work on an almost daily basis on the farm and I have no problem with it because I know it's safe and I always exceed code requirements. I don't need their approval to know it is 100% safe and reliable and in many instances I have GFI breakers followed by a GFI outlets if I think there is any chance of water being in the area, I exceed their expectations because I can.

I started gutting the final bathroom in our house, number 3, a few days ago and started doing the electrical work. I had to move the GFI and separated the vanity and bath fan/light switches and move the fan/light circuit when it occurred to me. I bet some EE's got shit-faced one night and decided hey just to screw everyone up let's use three different screw sizes in each box. Yea!, a #2 Robertson for the box ground lugs and clamps, a #1 Robertson for the switch/outlet screws and a Philips for that god damn ground screw located in the worst position possible. I mean if I was designing an electrical system and my engineers showed me this fiasco I would fire them on the spot, no questions, no reply needed just go clean out your locker dude.
That's my rant for the day

Sorry Tinman, I was just being facetious. Actually, we all have very precision designed pulse motors in our homes that run for very long times on miniscule power.

The drive coil one second pulse can be picked up on most types with an external coil and used as a precision drive / marker / trigger pulse for other events or circuits.
Kind regards

Yep, my old Seiko chronograph watch runs for about 2 years on a battery change (one #371 battery), and that's with occasional use as stopwatch, swinging that big second hand around in 1/5 second increments, as well as constantly driving its tiny regular second hand at 1-sec pulses.

In Australia I am fairly certain that all residential and commercial electrical work must be performed by a ticketed electrician, eg. with the appropriate qualifications and tickets to prove it. Owner builders can do their own work as long as they are qualified and ticketed, I'm fairly sure owner builders have their work inspected, but an electrician can come here and do work with no further checks, then the liability is his. On new buildings this may be different.
The resident refrigeration mechanic does most of the electrical work here, with no inspections, the work is safe but he only knows rules and procedures, he is not so knowing of the reasons why for some things, he only knows what he is told and he is not keeping up to date.
We got an electrical contractor in to rewire and add switches (to plug the gen into the house via the appropriate method). While he was here he added a wire from the generator neutral to the the generator ground for the existing "on gen outlets", then he came back after a electrical safety meeting and removed it because when connected to the house the house Earth and RCD / GFI take care of the issue.
On the generator when it is free standing and not connected to anything the ground on the outlets is open circuit to the neutral. There is a ground strap from the gen head to the frame. I guess in case of fault, but the generator sits on plastic wheels and rubber feet, so a fault that made the frame live would still be dangerous, when the generator is used away from the house. Basically it is a floating supply when not connected to the house I think.
Anyway the RCD/GFI on our house works, I tested it. I'm not sure if inline RCD would protect anyone when connected to the gen output, Haven't thought too much about it yet.
Cheers.
We have a neighbor whose lights dim when the furnace/blower goes on, or when the refrigerator turns on.
Does anyone know what can cause this? Seems to me there is a poor connection somewhere... but how to find it?
possible the fridge and boiler are connected to the lower power light circuit.

having the fridge [kitchen] and the furnace on the same circuit does jump out as unusual [NOT GOOD design]
I suggest you take an infrared thermometer down to the open panel and start looking for hot spots.[bad connections]
or warm wires.
these will happen overtime in situations where the circuits are not properly designed in the panel box.
also check the Volts in the house [Killowatt meter will do ]
Or they could have issues with the service from the pole .
they would definitely get somebody there from the power company if they filed a complaint and of course a good electrician
will make quick sense of this problem.

This is common in older homes where major appliances were connected into lighting circuits. The high current draw from motors on start up drags the circuit voltage down and the lights dim. Here all appliances ie. furnace, fridge, stove, dryer require dedicated circuits from the panel to prevent this kind of thing. I wired the last three houses I built from the meter base on and it is quite a job. I like doing everything myself and I wired all the circuits in each room into a single circuit to the breaker because many electricians mix circuits from one room to another which I find annoying. I also tagged every single conductor in every box so I know where it came from and where it's going. Doing it right the first time can save a lot of grief down the road when things need to be changed.

Installing ring mains for power outlets ensures a good 30amp circuit, as in British wiring, don't know how they do it in the USA. In Britain only the cooker and water heater are on a separate circuit, then the lighting circuit and then the ring main, depending on the size of the house the ring main maybe split into two, upstairs and down stairs.

That's an interesting way of doing it, here it starts with a 15 amp breaker, 14/2 conductor with a third bare ground wire to a max of 12 fixtures (lights-outlets) the ground conductor bonded to each box and outlet. All appliances require a dedicated 15A breaker and 14/2 conductor and major appliances such as oven 40A and clothes dryer 30A must also be dedicated circuits with no other fixtures.
Nobody here uses electric water heaters because natural gas is much cheaper and in my next house I want to install a hot water boiler/ domestic hot water heat exchanger setup which I think is the way to go. We have 40 or so high efficiency variable rate condensing hot water boilers at work and there nice little units. They will just sit there purring away at 10% rate all day without missing a beat and we have had no real issues with them to date.

Not only interesting, but the best way, on that ring you can plug in at any socket up to a total of 30amps, each plug will be fused at it's appropriate appliance rating up to 13amps (3kw), the ring will take 7kw using only a 2.5mm phase and neutral (1.5mm earth) going from socket to socket and back to the breaker at the end of the ring, so effectively a 5mm cable, also cuts the long run resistance down to maintain the voltage.
In the UK most supplies are 60amps @ 240v single phase to houses, few have 3 phase. Normally no earth entry to the house, they use PME and or earth rod into the ground, earth leakage trips of 60ma at the incoming 60amp supply.
Seems it's one thing you didn't pinch from us ;D ;D ;D

Apparently, lol, and the more I think about it the more I like it. Ring the house with outlets then run secondary legs into the interior walls where needed then just pull up to a switch and hit the lights. Here we like a rats nets of conductor randomly dispersed throughout the house with no real rhyme or reason to it.
On a side note my Tesla coil has been wreaking havoc with my GFI's in the garage so I ran a #6 conductor Earth ground from outside to a terminal on my bench. Big difference and she's got way more kick and I just noticed my RC plane hanging from the ceiling is only 4 feet from it....Doh. I might have to check the electronics before I take it up again, damn I can't believe I missed that.

Hi all
I woke up this morning and found that my hard disc has been totally whipped clean, I am on my tablet at the moment while I fo4rmat and re install.
I have lost a lot of work as I have not made a cop6 for some time.
What I can't understand is how it was done when my computer was off overnight, apart from external startup via the modem.
When I went to startup this morning, it would not, but showed that my disc had 159gbits. Of free space, the disc is 160gb (empty). I was using about 78gb. Last night.

I do not take any precautions at all, I assume that my every action is monitored at all times and all external (from my mind) information is stored for profiling and assessment.
All information I consider important is stored in my brain and accessed when needed by my mind for model building.
Sometimes that means information exchange and manifests as drawings and technical descriptions for your study and replication.
A work archive such as Mike has lost can be looked upon as a blessing, time to reboot! O0
Are you sure it is actually wiped clean and not just a connection MB/socket or OS problem ?
I guess you will find out during the reinstall process.
What is your Operating System and which version ? If you don't mind mentioning.
Several days ago a friend's HP laptop began acting
weird like it had been infected with malware; then
it failed to recognize the hard drive at all and couldn't
boot from it. It did boot from the dvd drive however
and with Puppy Linux was able to perform several
tests and diagnostics.
Visual inspection of the tiny hard drive (big capacity but
very small size) revealed the connector had worked loose
somehow. Re-seating the connector and securing it
properly so that it couldn't work loose again solved the
problem. All is back to normal and no data was lost or
corrupted, fortunately. Windoze 8.
Yeah muDped, I mentioned it because the same thing has happened to me with the regular SATA 2 cables/connectors, I use the ones with the little metal locking clip now and always zip tie the cables so there is not much torque or pull on the connector. Quite right in that the connector to the HDD itself is more often the culprit. I've never bought a computer whole, right from the beginning I learned how to build my first computer but I've only been using them since about 2004.
Indeed puppy on a usb is so awesome it is difficult to describe, people freak out when you slip in the usb press F12 then boot their computer and show them their stuff on the corrupted Windoze drive, piccies and so forth, they always ask can you do that with any computer and the answer is always not if the user prevents the possibility, then they go ahah ok.

Hi FH
XP is my system and yes I have now got up and running again.
The hard disc was showing that it infact had been wiped clean apart from the area which can't be touched, it showed available space to use as all the disc, there was no information on the disc.
The problem maybe that now with the original XP there will be no updates to the last down load that windows gave suport to, we will see.

Do you have the XP Service Pack 3 on a CD ? and the system drivers ect. I realize the HDD you have is probably good but when my old dell 1501 laptop 60 gig HDD looked sad after about 6 years use by my son I made a clone of it to a Samsung 120 gig SS drive. First I cleaned and defragmented it then Installed Service Pack 3 then I updated it then I cloned it to the samsung SSD. Now the thing boots up quicker than any computer I have, and it's a single core AMD Turion 2000 Mhz, 2 gig of ram on XP 32 bit, It's still a good computer, very useful, if a bit slow when I expect it to do too much. My bad. It was well worth the 110 dollars or whatever it was to upgrade to SSD when I needed a new one anyway. SSD may be less reliable than a large single platter HDD though is all, dunno.
Could it be that XP may become more secure though as less people use it ?
EDITED First line.
P.S. I think all the released updates for xp are still available. But trying to use internet explorer 6 or whatever may be an issue.

Confirmed I can still get updates for my XP installation on my laptop. Not sure but you may need to get internet explorer 8 before trying to do too much, can't remember, and if you have service pack 3 on disk install it as soon as you can you may need to install Dot NET framework 2 or something to be able to do it. Anyway always fun to reinstall windows xp on a friday night, well friday here anyway.
Microsoft Update wants to give me for security updates the "Malicious Software Removal Tool" and for optional software updates "Skype 7.3". lol.
I would Upload the SP 3 ISO in minutes for you, but it would cost me dollars to do it. I'll get wired up to the fast cable soon enough.

If you still did not touch the disk, the http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step may help you to recover data. From the live Linux installation such as one listed in http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Livecd it should be running.

Hi All
Yes as I am at the moment running without updates on the original XP, it is with the SP2 pack and I'm looking to see how I can get the SP3, even skype won't load now, needs SP3.
Really thinking if Father Christmas will come early and buy me a new computer :-\ I doubt it very much, no money at this house and the cheapest laptop I have seen is around 400€. At least I can get on the net, and I can use my free tablet for skype O0

I feel for ya Mike, now that I must pay high data costs I am glad I already had SP3 on disk and took the precautions I did by cloning my original HDD which still works and is in the cupboard if I corrupt the new SSD I can simply re-clone the HDD to the SSD again and I am back to where I was when I installed the new SSD. Short of a serious failure the laptop should work for another 10 years or more. I did that so I don't need to bother with all the System drivers ect.. I wish I could afford to post you a Sevice pack 3 disk by traditional mail, and I will when I can afford the postage if you like, I am dead broke due to having to pay the insurance excess and moving in costs ect. I actually am now in some debt which really gets my goat so to speak, I abhor debt. But the world is now in such a state that debt is inevitable for most of us. I can probably send you a disc next Thursday, providing I can find it. I have a huge mess here of boxes and stuff, I'll try to locate the CD to begin with.
Maybe another member closer to you with cheap data could download the service pack 3 ISO and Burn it CD then send it to you by real physical mail..

Maybe I'm paranoid, maybe not! but I get no help from skype to solve the problem.
When I redid my computer skype worked for 24hrs without a problem, now there is no way I can get into skype!!! shows an OE problem, and going through all the process there is no solution and they won't help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone had the same problem? or is it just me! I am outspoken, maybe I'm a marked person! at nearly 65 yrs old I speak what I think and that's that.

An unusual problem that is technically very
interesting.
You're saying that just that computer is somehow
being rejected by Skype when you try to connect
and that your other computers via the same IP
will work fine? ??? :o
Could it be malware of some sort? >:(
Here's hoping that you find a solution soon and
that you'll give us a complete report on what it
was... :)
Have you installed any other programs since when Skype was working ?
What version of skype is it a newer version of skype might not be compatible.
Did you reinstall the system drivers. Possibly updating the Dot Net Framework and Such could help.
I think microsoft will still have more updates there for XP after the Service Pack 3 for download/installation.
Check the optional Updates, it might recommend the last best version of Skype for XP or something.
Sometime the weird stuff resolves itself. Then there is always the "System Restore" function too maybe go back to when
it was working . Odd problem, I don't use Skype. yet.
Hi All
I set up a new a/c and that works fine on this computer, and the old one works fine on the laptop, so what is going on I really do not know, most strange

PS Sorry about your troubles Farmhand, I have just had an electro and the Doc thinks I have a valve problem in my heart, waiting for X ray at the moment to confirm this or not, all a bit worrying.
Take it easy, sounds kinda serious. We can hope for improvement and try to stay as stress free as possible, I've learned to try to not let things worry me. But I am a stressed monkey a lot of the time, if I get too stressed I try to find an outlet or do some self psychology and "self talk" in my head positively. Best of luck on you results.
Mechanical problems mostly require surgery to rectify, Here to hoping you don't have to go through a surgery. I get anxious about surgery on my neck and lower back ect. but those are not the same as problems with the pump, my problems are not "life threatening" so I am lucky, so far anyway.
Now I'm on flat ground I actually went for a run the other night, it's only 350 meters to my eldest brothers house, but within 50 yards of his house I began to give out, I got pain in my chest and had to hyper-ventilate to catch my breath. However I had a short rest of about 30 minutes then ran home again but went a lot slower. It was almost impossible to run that far on the mountain without boots, here I can use running shoes. My lower and mid back felt the strain the next few days, also sore leg muscles, but that felt good/normal.

Yeah I hear ya, Life is one big long test. I have to go to court for "Driving without due care and attention" as a result of my collision.
I say that is fair enough for me, I'll wear that and I deserve it as well. Probably get a couple hundred dollar fine, but as long as my insurance pays out for the other guy I'll be satisfied, I think they will also pay me, after my meeting with the investigating officer this morning I see no reason for them to refuse me. I showed him the dash cam footage on my computer and gave him a copy on an old micro sd card. Just gotta take it as it comes and press on regardless. I need to find money to pay specialist doctors and stuff for my existing spinal conditions as the public health system here is choked up and not working very well either. I get a full body CT scan on monday and after that I'll see if I can get a private Neurologist to look into some things.
..
One less thing to stress about, the insurance claim is accepted and will pay out in 7 to 10 days. I see that I can most likely get a 2004 model commodore with 170 000 klms on the clock for 4 K, many like that. I'll probably end up with a better-newer car but with more k's on the clock. I need a tow bar so I can tow the trailer with the motorcycle in it and move furniture ect. the one i like has one.
I wonder what premium they will offer me this time. lol. Last time I got a real good deal and low premium but insured the car for a bit over the "book" value, which is handy to pay for more insurance. hahaha I'll try to do it again but might not be a good deal.

muDped May I ask which version of Linux you use most and why you like it ? With Linux mint on my laptop there seemed to be an issue with Hardware acceleration relating to graphics chip and video's ect. It used only cpu to render video. Not sure if it was the same as when I had Linux Mint on the desktop in dual boot, I've since changed HDD's and have not yet again installed a dual boot option with windows 7 on a dual core 2900 mhz PC using on board graphics for now but will end up with a Direct x 11.1 compatible AMD graphics card.
Another issue is Nvidia's "CUDA" ect. Hardware transcoding abilities as well as Intels "Quick Sync" hardware transcoding tech.
Of course I think If one wants Windows 10 on a machine then it may not be possible to create a dual boot setup, which I really like, I like the option of using either.
I'll need to look into it and discover if a Linux - Windows 10 dual boot setup is even possible, I'm not using secure boot so maybe I can do it. The newer computer I just built I intend to install a Nvidia GTX 760 Graphics card from EVGA so as to utilize the CUDA hardware transcoding ability to convert BluRay Images to H264/5 MP4 Video files. 25 Gigs to 1 or 2 Gigs for mobile devices and 25 Gigs to maybe 2 to 3 Gigs for Archive. Newer computer is AMD CPU and AMD Graphics. I made a boo boo and should have taken the Intel route, even if I had to purchase a slightly lower clocked and rated CPU. From what I can gather Intels "Quick Sync" produces a better quality output video than Nvidia's "CUDA", but pure CPU transcoding produces the very best quality at the cost of time and power.
I am unaware if Linux programs can Utilize these Hardware transcoding abilities. Confused.
Next computer I assemble for myself will be Intel and Nvidia so I can take advantage of whichever Hardware transcoding acceleration is best in a given situation or both, one for hardware decoding and the other for hardware encoding if need be, to speed things up. If I build and use Intel and Nvidia then I can recommend them as options for others, but until then i can only go by the online evidence.
..
Just my personal preference Farmhand, but I would not go the dual-boot route anymore.
Plop VirtualBox on Linux and load WinX as a virtual machine. If you go this way, then WinX/VirtualBox runs as just another application and can't hog your machine. Plus you can interact between the two instantly instead of rebooting and horsing around with intermediate file transfers.
Another nicety is moving WinX. Once you have it as a virtual machine, you can zip it up, move it to a safe place and plop it back on, like in the case of an OS reload or something. All your configurations stay intact. The whole OS just becomes a file.
Just saying...
I went this route and have never looked back.
That sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a go when I get the time and get the phone line and unlimited adsl connected, should be only a few days away, fiber is some months away yet, but I'll get switched over to fast fiber to the node based internet access when it is available. It would cost me almost 40 dollars to download the latest version of Linux mint on the wireless broadband I'm using now. Soon it won't matter I'll be in the unlimited data club. yippee
On my several old computers I've "frugally" installed a
collection of the various flavors of Puppy Linux. The
ability to run "frugally" (without a full install) is the
most advantageous feature of Puppy for me. Another
is their small size. Most Puppies are somewhat more
than 100MB and only a few more than 300MB so the iso
downloads are quite fast.
Presently, for the video editing work I've done, the
Puppies used are Slacko 5.7 (a Slackware derivative)
and Tahr Pup 6.0.2 (an Ubuntu derivative.) Those
derivatives enable access to the full repositories of
their origins for inclusion of many applications as
add-ons.
All of the Puppies come with the FFConvert Multimedia
Converter included. I use this a lot for converting videos
from one format to another. The process can be time
consuming on my old machines which are all single-core
32 bit processors, but the job eventually gets done.
AVIDeMux has the ability to "hard encode" subtitles into
foreign language videos as it converts them, which is very
useful.
Open Shot is available for Tahr Pup and is incredibly versatile.
The newer Puppies use the latest kernels which exploit the
construct of the new multi-core processors. Therefore, I use
"retro" versions of those Puppies which are compiled from older
kernels for use in older machines. Most of the new, advanced
Puppies which are intended to operate in new computers will
not work in my older machines. One of these days I'll have to
go High Tech and get one of the latest I suppose. For the time
being I really enjoy using the older technology though.
Well I remember when computers were a lot slower then today, I would run XP on a PentiumII but with XPlite.
http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html
This program is the greatest for installing XP with the least amount of overhead. Things like Outlook and Internet Explorer that are the high risk programs are simply omitted. It gives the user full control over the install and upkeep process producing a much leaner OS.
hahaha. I remember right at Dos 3.1 when Xerox came out with the first graphic interface Gem and publishing with Ventura, it would take about 20 seconds to pan down a page. I used Gemdraw to produce technical drawings for a tender request made by the Canadian Army for a mobile water purification system that could be set-up on any water supply in the world, within 20 minutes and produce pure water for 1000 soldiers. hahaha It took me 4 months and some 60 pages. When the tender date arrived, I get a call from their purchasing to say the tender had been cancelled. Bastards. They said they would send my the new tender when it is available but I never heard from them again. They then took my design and sole sourced it to a company in Ontario (won't say their name for legal purposes) and I only found out about it when I was watching the CTV News one night and there was a report about the Canadian Army in Bosnia and they were showing soldiers unloading water treatment modules from an Army truck. I jumped up and yelled, Hey that's my damn design. I was so pissed off.
Ahhhhh. This rant thread really does wonders.

Great story Wattsup! Aaaaaah, those were indeed "the days!"
Personal Computers were clocked at from 1 to 3 MHz; the KAYPRO 2
with the Z-80 processor was something less than 4 MHz. The IBM PC
was 4.77 MHz, the XT with TURBO either 4.77 MHz or 10 MHz and the
infamous AT was 12 MHz. In those days the thought of a PC clocked
at 2 GHz did not exist. The Dick Tracy wrist radio was also thought to
be an impossible figment of the imagination.
This was only like 25 years ago!! Shazam, China and High Tech have
made an enormous difference.
Well I have had another of those days today where I feel like taking my shotgun and blasting a few people. I have at the moment my two children 25 and 21yrs old, taking me to court for some 35,000€ (which I do not have, even if I did they will have to wait until I'm dead), so I have been to obtain legal aid as I do not have any money and a limited income.
I took all the papers to the legal aid office 50km away, they told me they needed another paper from the tax office, I explained that this I'm not obliged to do in the tax office as I am self employed and make a simplified return. They say I have to have it or a certificate to say I don't need it.
OK I go to the tax office to ask!!!!!! I now need to make an apointment on line with the information desk, huh, then when I get the information of which part of the tax office I need, I have to make another apointment on line, huh.
So just to have a certificate to say I do not need this paper, I will have done 8 X 50km =400km huh!!!! can I send it by e-mail? no, by post? no, only by hand so as they can give me a receipt for the paper..... They can stick their paper up their backside where their brains seem to be, This is what we have been doing for months my wife and I, and it has got to the stage that we are even falling out between ourselves.

Hang in there Mike, hopefully right will prevail. I am astonished by how many people from non English speaking countries that can speak and write perfect English, Native English speakers are generally lazy in that respect, but then just which language to learn is the difficult choice.
Best of luck Mike.

Thanks
I'm English through and through but speak Spanish and have lived in Spain for the last 25years.
I agree the English speaking are very lazy when it comes to languages.
My situation here nobody outside Spain can understand. Spain is the second most corrupt country in the whole world, not many realise this, of course I could just go back to the UK, the problem would not go with me, it would remain here, but I have a house here, the only thing I have left, but also I have 3 children in the UK. This is the classic take the house off me now and the 3 in the UK would be left with nothing when I die, they are 37, 40 and 44yrs.
I am suffering all sorts of health problems at the moment, and if I die before any court hearing, then the house will be split 5 ways, if not then 2 ways, now you see the problem. The third thing is if I loose my house and I resolve my health problems, what do I do then? live on the street? that's what would happen if I did not have a wife that could look after me!!

Since I'm presently using an older computer with just 1GB
of RAM, web page bloat has been a real problem. The
amount of bloat in the form of ads and other "stuff" which
comes with some web pages is astounding. The times have
recently been many when with just two pages opened in
separate tabs the bloat has caused my browser to overload
and lock up. I've tried two ad-blockers in an attempt to prevent
such intrusion but with only limited success.
Until now, that is. Two days ago I checked on the available
add-ons for firefox and found the BluHell-Firewall (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bluhell-firewall/) listed
Naturally, after reading what it claimed it could do, I thought
"this is surely worth a try." And yes it was! It has made an
incredible difference! The "bloat" has been eliminated!
Have any others discovered this amazing add-on and given
it a go yet?
Hey muDped, I've been using "Adblock Plus" which works on Chrome as well as firefox, but I will definitely give BluHell-Firewall on firefox a run to see if I can tell any difference.
Chet Mate, you may be right about me having sleep apnea after all, my new doctor has organised for me to receive a test kit so I can hook myself up and test at home, I cannot remember when I last had a dream, the doc reckons it highly likely considering my symptoms. As well he checked out my left hip and he says I have a hip issue also, which explains why doing more exercise as the other doctor recommended caused me more problems. I go to get some physio on the hip and lower back in the new year. Maybe next year they will work out what is actually going on and where. All the walking around town was fun when I had no car but it took it's toll on me. I don't like the idea of having to use a walking stick, I'm only just turned 47. darnit, my body is wearing out fast probably partly because of lack of sleep and therefore lack of repair time. With any luck the new doctor has some empathy and will try his best to get to the bottom of my issues rather than just try to drug me senseless and ignore all my complaints as if I were "bunging it on" as we say here or faking it or just whinging. If you didn't mention it I might have argued with the doctor about the sleep apnea, but he seems convinced. It might even get me off the "driving without due care and attention" charge because I had no way of knowing and the previous doctor had not suspected that and ignored my complaints about my hip by blaming it all on my back.
I'm still a bit lame from what I did almost a week ago and I need to mow the grass again, so it's a never ending circle. Lucky I have a small yard, I'll stagger the front and back a week apart. Gotta keep up with the chores or they get backed up. I find it really difficult to do nothing though, it seems like a waste of life sitting around doing bugger all. That annoys and stresses me out.
Thanks for bringing up the sleep apnea thing, I should have listened to good sense and asked to get checked out already. I'm probably lucky I haven't had a complete mental breakdown due to lack of sleep and stress. I feel a lot less stressed just knowing things might get checked out now. If I can improve my condition I'll get a job, if they'll let me work that is, I won't get any workers comp cover most likely, but I don't get any at home anyway so no big deal.
Anyone else use Glucosamine Hydrochloride for joint issues ? I got some and took one yesterday, already I feel some relief from it. Seems expensive but is only 25 cents per tablet.
FH
I was just talking to a friend today who is getting checked out for Sleep apnea, as we talked I remembered a bit more about what I was told at the Apnea clinic.
apparently REM sleep is when a very important "repair" cycle happens for our Bodies , supposedly a "new" finding in science ,[especially the Heart I am told]
anyway, when an apnea event happens during REM sleep it completely bumps you from REM sleep , Very bad for the body's healing cycle. your Sudden loss of consciousness' is a VERY big symptom ,if you do indeed have this condition once treated you Will experience rapid improvements in your health and feeling of well being.
Like a Miracle of sorts ,I don't know if I mentioned this before But My dad experienced a similar Miracle with his heart after he was diagnosed and got treatment
for the Sleep Apnea A 180 degree turn around with his heart problem ,apparently completely normal now.
Glad You are having this checked ,also I do know MANY persons who sware by the Glucosamine ,not sure about the other ingredient.

Aye, I've tried that one too, with a strange result. Certain pages
seemed to have detected it and put up a little popup requesting
that I disable it for their page as their ads were non-intrusive and
in good taste.
Bluhell is surprisingly effective yet very small in size. Down in the
lower right hand corner of my task bar there is a graphical display
of RAM usage. Before when browsing certain sites and pages would
cause the little display to shoot up very high as the "junk" was loaded.
Now it stays down near the bottom showing minimal use of RAM as
the bloat is somehow rejected or ignored. It seems to be doing a good
job.
muDped, even on windows 10 with 4 gigs of RAM I notice the pages load much quicker and without any "extra" or "pop up" ads at all, I tested it on a webpage that I use for a tv guide which is very heavy on ads and with BluHell installed and enables the page loaded real quick. It definitely works well even on windows. Firefox browser that is. Good stuff, Thanks, I'll get my tv guide much quicker now. :)

@Farmhand
Been reading about your issues and hope you are feeling better these days.
Joint issues is mostly caused by parasites. What I make is called MMS2 which is Calcium Hypochlorite (68%) better known as swimming pool shock treatment. You can buy huge volume for about 5 bucks at any pool store or poll section of any mass merchandiser.
You need to find some size 0 empty capsules and cap these your self not more then 10 at a time.
30 minutes after a meal, you drink one big glass of water, then you take one pill and drink a second glass of water. You may feel some slight bloating but this dissipates quickly and you will get used to it quickly as well.
What the pill does is reduces to oxygen (there is no chlorine in this) in the digestive system which then enters the body where all the anaerobic bad guys get eliminated by this simple oxygen, while the aerobic good guys in the digestive system and body are not harmed. hehehe
As we get older, our ability to generate oxygen in the blood and body diminishes and proportionally, the bad guys just make themselves at home creating so many of the chronic conditions.
Lookup MMS2 on Google or even youtube. Lately, doctors in Ivory Coast (if I recall correctly) were treating ebola patients with MMS and it takes only 2-3 days. Malaria is also cured in 2-3 days. But since this is a non patentable very low cost and easily dispensed treatment, or course the pill kings don't like it and hence, you will not hear about it on TV news. You will see attacks by the pill pushers which is always expected. But it works man and no harmful side effects.
Keep well.

PS: Naturally this post is not medical advice. hehehe
Thanks for the heads up Wattsup, I'll look into that as well. The doctors don't recommend Glucosamine either, and I already gathered why since it seems effective to a degree.
Well this one takes the number one post.
My wife and I went away to our apartment on the 4th of this month and came back on my birthday 11th.
On the 4th at 1900hrs someone telephoned the electric company to have the electric meter removed from my mother in laws flat, on the 6th they removed it perminently.
We do not know who has done this, the flat is now my wifes as her mother past away early last year. Going and making a claim to the electric company they say no money is owed, the call details will not be given for security reasons, the call was recorded but we will need a court order to hear it "we are told that at the moment it would take 2yrs".
We have been to the police, to the electric companies offices, the town hall etc etc etc and as of now no luck with anything, just a brick wall.
Am I paranoid? whoever did this had to have access to the contract details and would have to be the property owner and of course my wife did not do this, also someone would have to sign the removal papers (there could have been someone on a medical machine in the flat)!!!! who ever did it knew our movements.
They will not put the meter back, now we need an inspection of the installation, a bulitine etc etc and is going to cost around 5000€ because the flat is near 40yrs old and will need a new installation.
My wife is pulling her hair out, she thinks it is because of what I do.
I will keep you posted

Can anyone tell me why my PC running XP and Chrome now doesn't go to selected pages on this OUR site without timing out several times. The home page always comes up instantly but any other I select doesn't. When trying to post a reply I get the right page after several reloads, but when I have typed my message and try to post it after several reloads I get the start new topic page. I go back to the page with my message on, try to post it again only to be told that I have already sent the post. But it doesn't appear anywhere. My laptop running Windows 8 works OK so I have to use that to post anything. I never had this trouble before the recent change of host.

I run that exact combo-->XP and chrome, and have no issues at all. My pages load within a second, and as you can see, making post's and replies is no problem.
Maybe try a re-install of google chrome?.
