Title: Looking for alternative Hosting ideas.
Post by: Peterae on 2026.08.15, 16:38:19
Soon we will be renewing our hosting package, we are currently EUKhost, i would like to see if anyone has ideas where we could move to, we have just under 20GB data attachments.
We currently pay around £150 a year for hosting and Certificate.

It would also be great to upgrade the forum software at the same time.

So looking for options, also the UK and EU are restricting free speech to also needs to be taken into account, freedom of speech within reason etc.

A shared hosting (not a VPS server, which would be better) costs this much per year here (https://www.mydevil.net/nasza-oferta/):

25GB    £21
50GB    £42
100GB    £84
200GB    £168

These are promotional prices till the end of the month (with VAT).

I use digital ocean for my AI servers. More exe than what your looking at $240/y. Can I suggest fronting it with the free CF version. You'll have bot control, caching, ddos protection for free.

I've used spaceship.com which is likely the lowest price and has extremely good AI help for setup.

I would also highly recommend cloudflare.com as it is huge, always improving and also has some of the best prices around.

Cheers guys  ;)

I'm looking and Mulling things over. Still not sure yet.

I've had some pretty bad things happen in the past, our original hosting company was in US and they went bust, couldn't get hold of anyone, they disappeared over night, couldn't log in to domain name or hosting, luckily they sold their customers to another company and eventually managed to transfer out.
I then split the domain and hosting to different US companies, then some strange things started happening, i think it was hostgator, i couldnt reach the website from the UK, having done a trace route i was being blocked from accessing the website to even managed it, Hostgator couldnt resolve the problem as the website was working but just not for me or parts of Europe, so ended up moving to UK hosting, luckily the UK hosting company was able to transfer everything as i still could not reach the website.

I dont see a problem with shared hosting, that is what we've always had.

We have purchased and moved to a polish MyDevil host now, we transferred OUR forum over and is in the process of upgrading the database, ultimately to upgrade the forum to the newest version, there will be changes to how the forum looks and works, the current setup will no longer work once the upgrade is finished and therefore we will have a new layout.
I will try to keep members informed as we do things on this thread.

Currently we have switched but the forum layout is the same, your browser may take a while to pick up the new layout, you can tell if you are on the MyDevil server because the main logo up top has a red led towards the right side of the oscilloscope image, if you don't see that you can force by clearing/refreshing your browser cache.

The new theme will allow you to select the themes color system there are 6 light and 6 dark Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Pink, you can select for your own preference, we will need to create top OUR logos for each color system.

Also we will be adding a speech Chat system hosted by the forum.  This is a secure encrypted Mumble voice-chat server. There are MS-Windows, Linux, Android and IOS versions of the client, allowing people to login and speak to other logged in members.

If you have any issues especially speed / web site loading issues then post any problems on this thread please.  O0

I would like to add a special thanks to admin for doing this, it's time consuming and he is doing this using his own time free.

Yes, Cheers to Verpies!

Not that it is a big deal, but will the email client hosting be working again with the new host? This is something that worked long ago, but was lost after an upgrade if I recall.

Yes, after the upgrade to SMF v2.1.7.
I could repair it now on v2.0.18 but I do not want to do the work twice.
