Baghdad Battery ancient super cap?

From chatgpt...
Question: can a battery be made from iron and copper?

Answer:

Yes, it is possible to create a battery using iron and copper as electrode materials. This type of battery is known as an iron-copper or iron-copper chloride battery. The concept involves using the redox reactions of iron and copper to generate electrical energy.

Here's a basic explanation of how such a battery might work:

Anode (Negative Electrode): The anode is typically made of iron (Fe). When the battery discharges, iron undergoes oxidation, releasing electrons and turning into iron ions (Fe²⁺). This is where the primary chemical reaction occurs: Fe(s) → Fe²⁺(aq) + 2e⁻

Cathode (Positive Electrode): The cathode is typically made of copper (Cu). Copper ions (Cu²⁺) in the electrolyte gain electrons at the cathode and are reduced to form solid copper metal: Cu²⁺(aq) + 2e⁻ → Cu(s)

Electrolyte: The electrolyte typically contains a solution of iron chloride (FeCl₂) or another iron salt. The iron ions from the anode migrate through the electrolyte to the cathode.

The electrons released at the anode flow through an external circuit to the cathode, generating electrical current.

As we can see the Baghdad Battery was in fact a battery invented 2000 years before Alessandro Volta's claim. There was also acidic residue found in the bottom of the Baghdad Battery which supports the theory it was using acidic citrus juice as an electrolyte.

In fact every grade school kid has probably made the same battery seen below. Copper, iron and lemon juice is all that is needed to make a battery.
Which begs the question, how is it that so many adults cannot understand something so simple when most grade school children do?.

As such there is no need for wild theories or mysticism and this is grade school science.

How is it that so many adults cannot understand something so simple when most grade school children do?.

Many people did not study Physics at school. It is such a fundamental subject that I reckon it should be for everyone but the snag could be that, really, it needs labs for experimental work.

...and some did and even learned a little, but that just put them in the valley of despair because they now know enough to ask some hard questions which they are not prepared to answer and that often causes them to want to throw away the baby with the bath water and jettison the entire body of scientific knowledge ...this is usually the point at which magical thinking and esoterica lends a helping hand.

Gordon Bennett, Verpies. We are only talking about sticking a dissimilar knife and fork into an orange and getting a volt or so out of it.

Well, the magic thinking is what mainstream science call when they don't have any explanation and they dismiss everything on this false base.
Although i won't dismiss magic term  ... let's see how this "magic" made its appearance in the world and what was considered magic, than what is considered magic nowdays.

The Bagdad Batteries were considered to be magic practice ?

Do we have any explanation why we keep researching for huge power banks when we are surrounded by energy ?

I'm more interested in the history of the Baghdad Battery.

Here's a clue, https://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/sep/26/baghdad-centre-of-scientific-world
When Baghdad was center of the scientific world

There are many other great men whose contributions are forgotten in the west, such as Iraqi genius Ibn al-Haytham, the greatest physicist in the 2,000-year span between Archimedes and Newton, al-Bīrūni, the Persian polymath regarded as the Da Vinci of Islam, al-Tūsi, a mathematician and astronomer who would influence Copernicus, and Ibn Khaldūn, the acknowledged father of social science and economic theory. All these men are no less worthy of mention in the history of science than Aristotle, Galileo, Newton or Einstein.

Of course, we will never really know what life was like within the House of Wisdom. But it is well established and uncontroversial that the much earlier academy in Alexandria was likewise more than just a library, for it not only brought together under one roof much of the world's accumulated knowledge, but acted as a magnet for many of the world's greatest thinkers and scholars. The patronage of the Egyptian Ptolemaic dynasty, which provided travel, lodging and stipends to those men, is not so different from the government research grants that university academics worldwide receive today to carry out their research.

Baghdad was once the world leader of science and technology bringing together scholars from around the world. It rose to intellectual heights we can only imagine. Then it was burned to the ground by barbarians and religious fanatics. Baghdad was literally erased from history. In fact this is a common theme throughout our history which looks like it may be repeating itself. Were presently seeing more and more people demonizing science and technology. Degenerating to tribalism and populism where false beliefs and emotions overrule facts. I didn't think it was possible, I thought we learned from the past but apparently not.

Hmmm, what if those sealed batteries were filled up with deionised water instead of lemon juice or any acid ?

To be honest, I don't think there was any kind of acid as they will explode due to hydrogen generation from reaction with iron and copper. Also, black marks would be just copper oxide deposition on the internal wall of clay recipient.

Also, clay pottery (as the body of Bagdad battery) can be conductive and may explain why they had only one electrode sticking out (iron rod).

Taking in account all properties of basic materials used i can imagine they were used in series-parallel to form a power bank with one wire transmission while touching each other, although I'm not sure if they were isolated from ground or some kind of spark gap have been employed to get them in resonance.

And just to piss off some people I can add some magical into equation: those mages or alchemists were saying some incantations when purifying water to be poured into clay recipients to give them memory and induce magnetism. And to be more "evil" I will encourage anyone looking for truth to read about water experiments in scientific labs where crystal modification upon words spelled above water have been proved mainly in Japan (or at least they were the only ones I know they experimented).

[Paul-R]

those mages or alchemists were saying some incantations when purifying water to be poured into clay recipients to give them memory and induce magnetism.

Then why not  get some mages or alchemists together and demonstrate the effect.

[Classic]

Then why not  get some mages or alchemists together and demonstrate the effect.

Why would I do that ? I have no need to demonstrate anything. I trust our brilliant scientists from around the world have done all their best already as we can see.

Anyway there is some consideration that I want to highlight:

Deionized water, because it lacks ions, can potentially interact with and corrode certain metals, especially when it's in prolonged contact with them. Some of the metals that are more prone to corrosion in deionized water include:

Aluminum: Deionized water can be aggressive toward aluminum, potentially leading to corrosion and the formation of aluminum oxide on the surface.
Copper: Copper can be susceptible to corrosion in deionized water, which may result in the release of copper ions and the formation of copper oxide.
Zinc: Zinc can also corrode in deionized water, forming zinc oxide.
Magnesium: Deionized water can react with magnesium and cause corrosion, leading to the formation of magnesium oxide.
Iron and Steel: While iron and steel are less susceptible to corrosion in deionized water compared to regular water, they can still corrode, especially if oxygen is present in the water.

Clay, when unglazed, can be electrically conductive to some extent, but its conductivity can vary significantly depending on the type of clay and its composition. Unglazed clay is not as conductive as metals or highly conductive materials, but it can conduct electricity to some degree due to the presence of ions in the clay.

Several factors influence the electrical conductivity of unglazed clay:

Type of Clay: Different types of clay, such as porcelain, terracotta, or earthenware, have varying compositions, and this affects their electrical conductivity. Some clays may be more conductive than others.
Moisture Content: The electrical conductivity of unglazed clay can increase with higher moisture content. Wet clay is generally more conductive than dry clay.
Impurities: The presence of impurities or mineral content in the clay can impact its conductivity. Clay with more mineral content may be more conductive.
Temperature: Electrical conductivity of unglazed clay can change with temperature. In general, conductivity tends to increase as the temperature rises.

So, to conclude, it is quite clear that Bagdad Batteries were just simply documents holder and have nothing to do with an electric pile, galvanic cell or any electricity generation and we can thank from all our hearts to those brilliant scientists from mainstream science that have brought this into the light and help us not to waste time in such stupid attempts.
To avoid any confusion, lemon juice is good for lemonade and vinegar for salads, have a peaceful sleep

[Classic]

So, if we know that storing an lead acid battery right on the concrete floor will destroy the battery, I wonder what effect will have Bagdad Batteries made of clay (similar with concrete) when they sit on the ground or in a building made of stones or masonry ? Would they be drained or replenished ? Or they will just make a "ground/negative" connection for the whole building and just wet ropes need to be used to connect iron rod to loads (light providing devices or electroplating) ?

Also I wonder what they been using for light ? Something similar with LEDs  ... electroplating semiconductors ?

I bet this technology would be considered as magic for that time for all ordinary people.  Just to keep "magic" in equation and prove the point for those suggesting "magical thinking"  ... as an irony (for their scientific arrogance).

The Baghdad battery is only one example of ancient technology and there are many more.

For example, the Antikythera Mechanism was dated to be 2000 years old. Which is supposedly older than the Baghdad battery.
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-56377567

Some would have us believe people 2000 years ago were not smart enough to invent a basic battery. So how did they invent a precision astronomical device regarded as the first computer?. It simply lacks credibility with regards to the facts we know.

There is also the ancient Egyptians work with stone and hard granite. Some would suppose the extremely precise coring and thin cuts were made by dim wits with wooden mallets and soft copper chisels. The facts suggest the Egyptians developed specialized cutting machines.
https://www.hallofmaat.com/unforbiddengeology/ancient-egyptian-copper-coring-drills/

The Antikythera Mechanism is most damning and I suspect most people today lack the skills and knowledge to hand craft a device with this kind of precision. How many people do you personally know today who understand the exact motions of the planets with respect to time?. Let alone being able to build a mechanical computer to accurately predict said motions.

So the notion that everyone 2000 years ago were basically cave men simply doesn't hold water, it's nonsense.

You haven't a clue, Classic. They say, quite rightly,  that you can't get energy if there isn't any to be had. Stop typing and read up about the theory of quantum foam.

Well, that's your opinion.

All I can say is French National Academy have concluded many years ago that no object heavier than air can fly, also Nicola Tesla have proved that radiant energy can be harvested and do useful work and Leonardo DaVinci have an answer: E pur si muove !

Although I can find any kind of explanation from mainstream science as why if we connect batteries in series-parallel when power a load we can use tens or hundreds times more the same energy stored in those batteries without charging them. This is just a simple example to prove how we can commit heresy against mainstream science. All what I've seen was only theories why this shouldn't happen and nobody want to admit that we are told to use in a wrong way electric energy and we encouraged to design everything that use electric energy in a wrong way.
In my opinion I can described this as they are telling us that we need to cut the three down if we want to have their fruits. This is what I see and understand from mainstream science and their "strange" behaviour.

You can stick with their quantum foam theory, I prefer to ignore and dismiss it as utterly nonsense, it is just another attempt to dismiss aether while saying it indeed exist but we can't use it.  ... Tesla just proved this wrong more than 100 years ago.  Just another bs from unscrupulous business-gov across the ocean.
