Hope you fella's don't mind, I need somewhat of a safe scratchpad for a project and do welcome input on the progress.
It has been developed in recent better weather here, when away from TinMan's circuit and the electrolysis of Mike's.

START - Stubblefield Tesla Applied Remote Transmission
A start, a beginning for a new form of real, usable, audio and electrical wireless energy.

Wireless transmission, potentially over great distances, using merely rods in the ground.
The proof of concept method is so ridiculously simple that 'why has it not been done before' ?
It has, back at the turn of the 20th century for the audio, but throughout the early 20th century for the electrical - 2 great experimenters who, it seems, were developing what amounts to the same thing !
And both were squashed out of history.
That revelation prompted my own forays.

First video - the initial test system.
Maximum approximate of 30mW send signal, from the headphone jack of the PC speaker:

Second video - transmission over 1 sending wire

At this point, good friend Graeme in Western Australia  replicated my first setup:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2bQ31FjHZQ
Over more tests, Graeme is now outputting 3W, for a detectable transmitting distance  of 40m.
Our corroborated results give the preliminary figure of 1W per 10m distance of audio signal.

Third video of mine, the positive effects of a heavy storm:

Fourth video, moving to a signal generator:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N60jIPfsqqI

Results of wave shape comparisons, transmitted to the unamplified telephone handset speaker, subject to my hearing abilities and the response of the speaker -
Square - 250Hz to 3 kHz (50% Duty Cycle)
Cardiac - 40Hz to 2kHz (95% amplitude, same for all below)
Volatile - 40Hz to 2kHz
Sawtooth - 100Hz to 6kHz
Triangle - 200Hz to 5kHz
Sine LQ - 290Hz to 5.5kHz
Sine HQ - 290Hz to 6kHz

----------------------

Where is it going ?
Next is to use a 555 and MOSFET, running at approx 2kHz to attempt electrical power transmission.
Previous trials with Tesla towers and SWES pancake coils have not been successful, because I believe the frequency was too high for ground transmission (circa 2MHz). The energy of the audio is evidently able to power a speaker, therefore it is able to be collected at a distance, using audio range frequencies. That is also why the receiving speaker has been unpowered in my tests.
Being audio, the distance tests are made wholly more feasible and is the link of Stubblefield to Tesla.
Roughly, each extra Watt enables 10 extra meters of transmission distance to the same received signal strength.
Hundreds of watts would enable usable transmission distances.
A specific non audio range frequency will produce the greatest distance and power efficiency. Such matters are likely discussed in Tesla's Colorado Springs Notes...which now require a revisit and reread.
As it stands, with an amplifier for the collected signal, open air concert/stage/PA solutions would form a business opportunity. Why struggle to hear at the back ?!

Short term electrical goal - wireless lighting to the rear of our backyard.

OK-im in on this one.
Reason being is there must be electricity of both polarities for that speaker to work.
Now how is this possable through a common ground?

Hi Mark

I'm not going to get into this one, just give a little of my radio work and Brad your dad should have known all about this. Radio transmition to subs under water from the land use VLF "very low frequencies" and placing of the land TX RX was very important as it was the type of land structure which transmitted the waves. When I worked for Marconi in Chelmsford, England, there was an area just for this and near my home on the welsh boarder there was one of these stations, you see they do not have to be near the sea :o

High frequencies will not travel through land, you can see this with VHF and UHF and up into micro waves, land blocks these waves by absorbing them, they are only line of sight. In the HF bands as long as you don't go too high, the waves pass through.

Now I don't know if this has anything to do with what you are doing, just thought I would give you that info O0

Brad your dad had a patent on that I think!

Things like that can be possible because there really is no such thins as electricities of opposite polarities. There is only potential with respect to the environment, and other potentials. You can have two positive potentials with a net difference between them and still have current. The designation of each of those being labeled positive is with reference to environment or ground. If you remove this from the picture, they still behave as the so called + and - designating a net difference.

Thanks for your thoughts guys :)

Yes, it's from numerous higher frequency experiments that the realization dawned...my transmitting frequency was far far too high !
Any solid state Tesla tower system, or pancake coil system had never given the results envisaged. I once had a 1.5W Lights of America bulb glow at a few inches distance when collecting grounded transmission from a Lasersaber SJR3, but it was woeful really. Over 1 wire I could light the same bulb easily at 60ft...but not with no wires !
Indoors in a pot of soil it could be done readily and works great, but move outdoors to the real soil and the functionality drops to near zero.

This thread is more of a scratchpad than a research route for a world changer technology - my view is that with the electrolysis, the DOVADA, water heater and more, that it may become a distraction.
However, I believe in this system and it tackles the situation upside down to all previous experiments.
We don't have freely available wireless power transmission in the world and, *if* all goes to plan, the emergent technology would be of most benefit to those without power lines !
There are safety aspects of note - the routing of power cables through damp conditions or where practical access is limited, as well as infrastructure savings in rural or 3rd world countries.
Worth a go, more than to light a bulb at the end of my backyard.

New circuit:

Moving forward to circuit design and development, the audio frequency route is 'safe' and known to work.
As such, the need is for an increase in power output, to extend the range for audio and/or introduce a method of realistic voltage and current sending.
The circuit being trialled is somewhat similar to Mike's SMD circuit in some regards...but also relates to the quick and dirty familiarity tester circuit for those experiments that was built.
It is a 555 timer of variable frequency, out to a MOSFET.
The MOSFET is a scrappy old thing but has been found to be working, K2161, others would work fine.
The frequency runs from approx 10Hz to 10kHz, in so doing it envelops the ranges heard on the telephone type speaker and increases them toward my probable hearing range of lower volumes at increased wireless ranges.
The circuit can be posted if anyone wants it.

Also, a fortunate experience shaped a good route forward, to escape from the telephone speaker as used earlier.
My wife's Dad sent some parts from a busted flatscreen TV, wondering if I could use them. The box arrived yesterday, just as I was testing the circuit - in the box were 2x 15W 8ohm speakers...aha, let's try one.
I tried one on the output of the circuit and the audio volume was vastly increased from prior trials with the telephone speaker...kinda obvious, but only afterward and due to the drive ability of the 555 200mA driving the 6A potential throughput of the MOSFET. The PC speaker headphone port hadn't been able to drive a normal speaker of course.

Today I hope to trial the system at some point and to run the first tests of collection energy, for wireless electricity transmission.

Here's the new setup:

First run of trial circuit:

A quick test this afternoon showed some interesting results.
The circuit is powered by a 12V drill battery.
The attached drawing shows how things were arranged.
The distance to one receive probe was only a couple of inches, the distance to the other receiver probe was 6ft.
Both were at 90 degrees to the transmitting circuit, with its sending probes placed 12ft apart.

Wherever the more distant of the receiver probes was placed, absolutely anywhere, the received volume was the same.
Swapping the receiver probe over to the other side transmit probe resulted also in exactly the same received volume.
Very odd stuff, but consistently odd :)
