Yes and in that thread, this video was reference which may give some insight to the SM TPU, though I don't think the TPU was truly mechanical. Maybe instead you have sections of material that are pole flipping...? Couple that with some of the recent posts by T-1000 describing iron moving across magnets...?

I think the point being in a toroidal setup there is no fixed north or south pole. But if you imagine a train in constant motion, the snake eating its tail, you may get some ideas how this scenario could be created and harnessed.
