Humour

History has shown that people like Edison and Tesla can be beneficial to increasing our knowledge.

What attracted me to Tesla's work wasn't his patents or all the wild speculation on the internet.

I enjoyed his lectures and his ability to break down complex engineering problems into simple terms and explanations. It was also refreshing that Tesla often referred to nature and the natural world versus math/equations. To explain the reasoning behind his experiments with words and real descriptions any experimenter could relate to. I think the accessibility of Tesla's work with high voltage/high frequency was the real appeal to the average person.

How many millions of children did Tesla inspire to build small Tesla coils and experiments with HV/HF?. I built them as a child and my children carried on this tradition in there grade school science classes. In fact there was so much interest that my children's school convinced me to donate both my 500kV 36" Tesla coil and my 24" Van De Graff generator to them. Even today I still get a kick out of knowing that tens of thousands of students in the future could learn about this technology from something I built on my bench...that's pretty cool in my books.

It's a new year and your post has been removed because it was abusive and hateful as per OUR standard agreement.

AC

Lies, scams and obscurantism are hateful as far as I'm concerned, but I can see why those who are unaware of them, or those who use them consciously, love them.

I am well aware that in the field of FE, attacking crooks, liars and incompetents is severely reprimanded, since without these people, there wouldn't be many left to do the animation.
There is much less ostracism on academic science sites.

Christmas is over, and it's time of wishes for the new year.
I have a feeling that mine won't be granted, but I'm lucid enough to know that if I manage to get one or two people out of the 95% who are content to go around in circles in their illusions, it would be a chance and an achievement.

[F6FLT]

I'm reposting this humor drawing here, to gather the collection. It had been posted in another thread that was blocked (and maybe deleted, I can't find it anymore).

I don't think it's very mean, and self-mockery only proves a critical look at oneself and a salutary hindsight that I think we should have on our "quest".  The acceptance of even iconoclastic images proves that we are not the fundamentalists of a religion or an ideology of the FE, but only curious and researchers capable of laughing also at ourselves. If you also want to produce humour against scientists, do not hesitate. As long as it is not in the service of a deleterious ideology, laughter is good, whatever its target.

Can actually tell when you're away from the lab, because you always go from 1-3 posts/day that are highly technical and engineering focused
to 8-12 posts/day that are scattered and mostly rhetorical.

I find that kinda funny.

I don't see why it's funny. Everyone has their own way of working.

Acquiring new ideas requires thinking, mine come mostly at night.
Then you have to test them with a little bit of math, because playing with a soldering iron all day and making often questionable measurements when you can know in advance what you will get, is completely inefficient.

Then thinking about scientific and technical points and doing math, you quickly get saturated and you have to take breaks. The breaks can be used to deal with general questions that are not as sharp, especially on the method. And do a little humor.

Finally, ideas do not come at regular intervals, nor does the enthusiasm for doing math. So the periods for each activity follow each other but are not the same.

What I find funny is that we see you enthusiastic about, for example, your transmissions through the earth, and then we don't hear about it anymore and we don't even have a conclusion about the experiment. No follow-up, it seems, no possible progress.

[Hakasays]

Everyone has their own style, but i think most here would agree that your character and content quality declines significantly when away-from-lab.

As to your other question, our group has a 3-way ranged telluric test this Sunday, and we're finally getting in contact w/ Bruce Gavin who has some high-quality reception+report data from the last few years.
Remember, all of us have to balance school/work and experiments so some months are more amicable than others.

"Most here", you don't know, and even if you did, it's not a reference. Because "most here" don't understand much about physics, spend their time exchanging banalities as if they were secrets, congratulating each other for that, provide links often without direct relation to the subject nor relevance because they come from others like them or from crackpots like Bearden, or valid but misinterpreted, and they don't seem to me to have a high level of reflection on the scientific method, accepting anything  for the sole reason it calls into question everything we know.

"All here" minus "most here", that leaves those with whom we can make progress, in a brainstorming.

New ideas never come from a consensus group, but from individuality. I am glad that the consensus opinion is, according to you, unfavourable to me.

Since we are in the humour thread, this is even a sign that I may be a genius, because: "When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him."

Normally I like to post results rather than plans, but I just posted an update so you can keep up with it.   You're welcome to listen in on 1.86mc Sunday evening your time if you've got the equipment.

Also, posting obligatory meme to stay on-topic

Thanks for the detailed update (Imho if there is no plan or measurements, there is nothing to discuss, no need to talk about it. The principle diagram and plans should be posted first, even before construction, so that possible defects can be pointed out and discussed).

Yes, bla bla bla we have all heard this broken record countless times before.
Do you have anything constructive to add to the conversation or are you just going to continue gaslighting everyone?.

I always thought Feynman had a cool sense of humour ...

Feynman always had a way of explaining complex problems simply. The sign of a true genius versus those trying to make everything more and more complex.

Obviously it is not yet a fact understood and recognized. Repetition is a pedagogical method.

That's right, but his courses remained inaccessible to the general public and to the "all here minus most here" I was talking about. Yet it is this kind of work that we need, not a popularization that is certainly useful to the general public but so simplified that even the person who receives it and thinks he understands it cannot claim that it is the science he understands. Between having fun with LC circuits and mastering Maxwell's equations, which are simple compared to the rest of physics, there is a very very big gap.

Eighth day

In the beginning was the world, man said: Let there be more light
Electric scenes and laser beams, neon brights the light abhorring nights
On the second day he said: Let's have a gas
Hydrogen and coal gas
Let's make some germs, we'll poison the world
Man will never be suppressed
And he said: Behold what I have done
I've made a better world for everyone
Nobody laugh, nobody cry
World without end, forever and ever

On the third we get green and blue for pie
On the fourth we send rockets to the sky
On the fifth make metal beasts and submarines
On the sixth man prepares his final dream:

In our image, let's make robots for our slaves
Imagine all the time that we can save
Computers, machines, the silicon dream
Seventh he retired from the scene
And he said: Behold what I have done
I've made a better world for everyone
Nobody laugh, nobody cry
World without end, forever and ever

On the eighth day machine just got upset
A problem man had never seen as yet
No time for flight, a blinding light
And nothing but a void, forever night
He said: Behold what man has done
There's not a world for anyone
Nobody laughed, nobody cried
World's at an end, everyone has died
Forever
He said: Behold what man has done
There's not a world for anyone
Nobody laughed, nobody cried
World's at an end, everyone has died

Yeah this was written about 40 years ago!

It is to continue this technical progress started with the beginning of humanity, which has always presented more advantages than disadvantages, that we need free energy.

My response to the anti-humanism of environmentalists:

As a moderate environmentalist my objection isn't with all humans, not anti-humanism which is absurd. Just the ignorant or deranged ones trying to destroy this planets ecosystems which are responsible for keeping all of us alive. All the most intelligent people, more so scientists/physicists are very concerned about the environment.

On environmentalism the psychology is strange, the people who tend to object to environmentalism are generally over 50. They will be dead sooner than later and have little to lose but the younger generation who tend to care more about the environment have everything to lose. The answer seems simple enough, some of the older generation have lost there empathy for others which includes there children and grandchildren. As well, globally, the older population is growing faster than all other age groups.

The facts definitely support this notion.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/old-people-dont-care-about-climate-change_n_571a910ce4b0d4d3f7236a07

"I don't care," 89-year-old American actress Cloris Leachman jokes in a new Earth Day video. "I'll be dead by then."

https://climatecommunication.yale.edu/publications/do-younger-generations-care-more-about-global-warming/

For example, 70% of adults aged 18 to 34 say they worry about global warming compared to 56% of those aged 55 or older.

Here's another humorous fact related to psychology. No anti-environmentalist has ever claimed they are moral or have empathy for others but also want to pollute our environment. This is true because it would be impossible not to come off as an asshole. In fact, I tried to push this point in all my conversations with these people and could see there anxiety. Not one person ever had the balls to even suggest they had any morality or empathy no matter how hard I pushed them. So it's pretty obvious that they know there an asshole but don't care what others think, I found that insightful.

It's cool, we know there are other bad people and criminals doing bad things all the time. It's just best not to associate or do business with them because at there core we know they cannot be trusted. It's a strange and wacky world...

Personally
I am hard pressed to find a family person that does not care about planet and it's future
And most older persons I know are greatly troubled by the future generations options!

However... I don't rub elbows with the greed driven mentality...
This planet is a treasure...
IMO we are here to hopefully bring some options !

Just sayin ....

...

You may be a moderate environmentalist, but the speech you reproduce in the sentence above is not far from the usual propaganda of not particularly moderate environmentalists.
They have not yet understood or pretend not to understand that nature has already eliminated millions of species before man appeared on earth, that nature is not fixed and evolves, that it is absurd to want to fix it to what the current generation knows, that global warming is a blessing, all past warming corresponded to periods of prosperity for man, CO2 is good for vegetation and it has been much more abundant in past periods of the earth, finally that none of the apocalyptic forecasts concerning it is credible, climatology being still far from mastering the subject, all the past forecasts of the IPCC show it, which turn out to be false over 5 years.

The increase in longevity is the sign that pollution, which is relative, is only the counterpart to pay for much more important advantages.
Nobody wants to destroy the planet, that's what the environmentalists want us to believe in order to obtain power by designating scapegoats among their political opponents, especially the supporters of the liberal economy.
By refusing to allow developing countries to exploit their resources in order to obtain the same standard of living as developed countries, by restricting the exploitation of the planet's resources because plants, animals or even simple landscapes would count more than humans, they are in a Malthusian approach.
Rules, a few precautions, and a little political control over industry are enough to keep the planet sufficiently clean and compatible with human well-being, we don't need the totalitarian ideology of the green Khmers, now instrumentalized by the counterproductive so-called green industry.

The researchers here should know that most of the environmentalists are against free energy. They even look favourably on the increase in the price of energy because it reduces its use. They know perfectly well that clean, abundant and free energy would be the trigger for a tremendous development of the economy, industry and consumer society they hate. For them, ecology is only a pretext for exercising political power to control people for the benefit of their sole vision of the "planet". If they claim to speak for future generations, it is because they want to silence yours.

[F6FLT]

Personally

Absolutely. Everyone is aware of the problem and is acting accordingly, which is part of the progress of ideas as humanity has always done, and which will naturally pass to future generations. But some people try to use it now to achieve political power, by praising ecology while denying all other aspects of life on earth. They are dangerous.

Nice job and you touched on all the populist far right talking points...
1)The mean old environmentalists are going against animal instincts/evolution and the science is uncertain (unless it serves your talking point).
2)The mean old totalitarian, socialist, counter productive liberals are against progress and capitalism. Oh the tree hugging EV driving horror, lol.
3)The finale, the environmentalist hate people and want to silence them.

Well, if nothing else we know where you really stand. Your nuts my friend.

I have a much easier explanation for environmentalism. Intelligent people do not destroy the environment which they live in and depend on for there own survival. It's just hard to look intelligent while shitting in your own back yard, it's just not cool.
