I built my own NE555 Timer Clark Zapper in plastic box, with 3 meters , so as I know it's working, contrary to the purchasable units. Current, frequency, and volts on+ off DC. Battery runs down too soon , so as I use parallel 9v batteries with voltage regulator at 6 volts for output. Unit seems to greatly reduce the arthritis pain. Wet hands with saltwater first, for copper pipe handles 1" OD and 6" long each. 2Khz, 1000microamps, and 5.5-6volts. There are various ways to verify frequency , such as blinking LED from frequency divider down circuit or frequency former followed by mono stable pulser going to led, that gets continually reset after 1.5seconds R+C. Ebay also sells tiny 2 wire digital DC volts meter, as well as 2 milliamp analog panel DC meter with needle indicator. 1000ua same as 1milliamp, on scale center, without pegging the meter. Resistor has to be there on breadboard for the required 1/4volt positive offset on the output. (Verify 1/4v with Ebay $35 hand held oscilloscope . (Use 9v bat or power supply cord.)
