I made a similar magnet cored coil as Brad uses, and redid my tests.

I have 10  5mm / 12mm ceramic magnets stacked together isolated by PVC tubing and a steel tube with a slot over it.
A coil wiht about 200 turns in 3 layers (0.7mm) was wound around this, measuring 1.3mH and 0.8 Ohm.

Same circuit as before, C1 10000uF, C2 470uF, UF4007 diode, power led, IRF530 MOSFET, 100 Ohm gate resistor,
CSR1 and CSR2 1 Ohm 1% inductionfree resistors.

Battery operated FG running at 86Hz square wave (DC) at 7% duty cycle.

Result is still that both CSR's have the same average current going through them measured by DMM's and the scope.

Not sure if Brad still uses a transistor or MOSFET.

Im still using the transistor.

As my scope is having issues reading CSR2 correctly,and your measurements are normally spot on Itsu,i can only put it down to my DMMs also reading CSR2 incorrectly.

Hey Brad.  Have you tried to increase the freq, but keep the pulse in the same time width where as soon as all events are done, the pulse and the field collapse currents subside, and then the new pulse happens. Just eliminating all the dead time, then the scope and meters shouldt have to work around that dead time. Not that it cant, but maybe it would be better to having it look like an ac or continuous waveform. Just thinking

I doubt very much that both your meters are off, and they do jive with what you had on the scope display when calculated manually. So either you are somehow getting the AVG current to increase with your circuit, or something else is amiss.

You double-checked the CSR2 value? Checked its inductance? Swapped with CSR1?

Yes,i bought all new resistors,transistor and breadboard.
I also bought a new bnc cable to hook the FG to the scope,but that made no difference to the outcome of the scopes readings for CSR2.

As always,i swapped the CSRs around,and the result was the same.
They are just 1 watt carbon resistors,but at only 50Hz i really cant see any inductance from the resistors playing a part in this.

I have used this effect in another device-one im sure you remember,and the results were much the same,and efficiency values are also very close.

I just cant think of any other way to show that CSR2 has more average current flowing through it,other than all the methods i have used so far.

But the question remains--why cant Itsu get the same results?.

I have just about finished the solid state version,so lets see what happens there,as it is extreemly easy to loop to see if it self runs.

Ok,here is our first attempt at the SS version.

Hope the diagram makes sense Jim.

Hollow through former to be 10.2mm,as 10mm is a bit tight when we get some stringing or overlap.
Former ends (4x) are 15mm outer edge,so if 1mm thick the two smaller coils will be 13mm wide,and main coil will be 30mm wide.

Any other problems-just ask.

Yeah bleah. I'm printing on the side. The learning curve is steep but well worth it I think. Now I have to work out whethe to buy a coil winder or print one. Edit. Just manuallly cranked mine up to 80mm /sec mid print. This is a big test for it.

After 3 go's,i to have laid it on it's side,as it just will not put support between the two middle disk's.
i am printing at 100mm/sec,as i have been for the last few prints.
All turned out well.

Also what is the calculation you are using to determine coil size vs magnet? I have a stack of 20mm neos giving a combined length of 42.24mm . Thinking of building the ss with them.

20mm neo's  :o
You will need a lot of current to neutralise that field.

You will need a lot of current to neutralise that field.
Yeah I know but I have a fisher & Paykel stator staring at me begging to be stripped... 90% through the print and the keepers look a little brittle. May want to make them 2mm.
