Iv been giving the whole transistors thing a lot of thought  and  here is what i have so far..

Switching speed between transistors and tubes - with a properly designed system this is not a huge deal

Noise between transistors and tubes - this can go either way depending on what you are ding but in general tubes are better at sine waves.

Amplifiers ( as a complete system ) between transistors and tubes - Huge difference if you are considering the input to output phase angle and noise

The time it takes a signal to pass through a transistor amplifier ( 1995 pre amp / amp ) is magnatudes longer than it takes for a tube ( pre amp / amp )

So... if your system was a feedback system and relied on exact phase angle between input and output.. to say hit a natural RF then tubes win hands down.

Grumpy

you would not want things to drift toward "max conversion" for any reason

Yes!! you do - you want exact conversion - then you can introduce the desired delay " you want " to control the reaction

O' sorry G - i see what you mean now....

Grumpy

all depends on the setup

some VCO's and crystal multivibrators are very stable
