What a nice trick. I guess the workings are as follows.
1) The center shaft is in two parts. The lower shaft is wider and contains the thinner shaft with the o-ring there to both hide this fact and also to act as a friction point to turn the center ball.
2) When the center shaft turns, it turns the center ball and when the left/right disks are proper placed at the good angle they start turning.
3) When he puts the disks at horizontal this lifts up the ball ever so slightly but enough to take the weight of the center ball off the o-ring and the system stops turning.
4) You can see that there is good enough torque available on the turning mechanism because as they turn the two disks are slightly wobbling left to right.
5) @Valeriy is correct. No motor in the base and in the ball but that does not mean no motor in the shaft or under the table. hehehe hahaha hohoho
6) While he moved the disks to position them, you can see the white base moves enough to let the viewer think there could be nothing below the ball shaft but if the table under the base had a wider hole to accommodate such free movement, he could still have his turning mechanism under the table and have it foot switch operated.
7) Also, you have to look at what is not shown because of the inherent limitations hidden tactics will have on the overall look.
a) There is no discerning mark on the top of the center shaft to show if it is turning or not. If it was not turning, then the inventor would want to show that by making a visible mark on the top of the shaft to show it is Not Turning. But if the shaft was turning and the inventor wanted to keep that as inconspicuous as possible, of course the top shaft would be as unmarked as possible. b) No shot under the table. c) The center shaft was never removed from the base.
Moral: You can tell the truth without telling the truth.
So what's the big deal.
