NSA taps in to internet giants' systems to mine user data

[BEP]

Why would we think this is news?

All it is is an improvement over previously used technology.

'2007'? Yea, right....

Certain trigger words in a 1994 email could cause delay in delivery or a bounce for no good technical reason.

Notice the 'SI' in the document pathname? It means 'Special Intelligence'

[Peterae]

It's interesting that it seems to be a UK newspaper that uncovered this, is this not listed in the US news pages as well? or has it been covered up

[BEP]

It has been mentioned in numerous reports - from the US - not by the name PRISM.

PRISM is an offshoot of FIVE-EYES/ECHELON and many other names. These are SIGINT activities denied by both Bush presidents ( I laughed when I saw the first interview of one denying the activities. They probably didn't know. Both were rather stupid.)

The current warmongering republican controlled US Congress protects and will probably extend it. There have been reports of a multibillion dollar facility being built in the western US deserts to make better usage of and store all the data.

No one should be shocked, especially in the UK. I spent quite a bit of time in Menwith Hill and Chicksands participating in the growth of these activities. Other visits for me were Bad Aibling, Augsburg, Schleswig, Berlin, Bluffdale, Famagusta, and the list goes on....

Relax....

This is not new.

It has been going on since the 50's.

..............

Ding!....Ding!.....Ding!..... ( the sound of CARNIVORE alarms going off  )

[Peterae]

Relax....

This is not new.

It does not surprise me, just wondered why it was news leaked to the UK

US spy chief defends surveillance

They must be sinking from the shear amount of data collected LOL, and anyway any educated criminal would surely encrypt their data or phone calls, leaving this system in place to monitor only the average citizen.

[BEP]

Do you think even the most stringent encryption is a stumbling block? These folks have so little trouble with it that they let the sniffers ( server daemons) crack the streams.

In case it isn't known..... There hasn't been a computer program compiler in existence for very long time that didn't insert a hole in any compiled program.

You can write your own but you must compile it with something

[evolvingape]

I think the point is that people are being shocked by the few snippets of information that are leaking out. The vast majority of the population in most educated countries around the world have no idea whatsoever about the parallel world that controls them. When they do get a glimpse of it, the shock is enough to create a mindset of disbelief, and they go back to sleep, back to work, pay there taxes to fund it.

Your right it is not new to people who have been inside it, but to the average Joe on the street it is a conspiracy so large and unbelievable, the mind collapses under the weight of cognitive dissonance.

There is no point in trying to hide from it, it sees everything, and the network to analyse that huge amount of data is growing rapidly as are the techniques and technology. All the "change" that you see going on right now is a reset, installing a new level of control to replace the crumbling current one. Like George Carlin said, you have owners, they own you!

Good point WW

It is quiet amazing how things get hidden in code, most fruit machines have cheat codes and hints.

I always remember the case of the printer during the first golf war, Irag was buying printers which had embedded tracking hard wired into one of the chips, every time a printer in Iraq was switched on, a satellite was notified of it's location, consequently if it was under ground a bunker buster was dropped in to take out the room, makes you wonder if the chip could transmit the printed data as well   apparently this was an everyday household printer.

I think more and more people are hearing of these conspiracy's but could not be bothered to do much about the situation, now that Austerity is hitting, more will open their eyes, if a person has enough money to live a normal life then why would they be bothered about Austerity and conspiracy theory's, but once things get harder and they get personally affected then the eyes will start to open, i think we are already seeing this, the problem is that it maybe too late for any action, all the laws that have been put in place to stop any revolution/rioting

The riots in London were a test of the system on a small scale, people were imprisoned for stealing pairs of trainers, this was a lesson to anyone thinking of doing something similar in the future, strange thing is the people choose the wrong target, looting shops because of a crooked bank system does not make sense.

Personally i think the answer is for people to start setting up not for profit companies to take away the business of the big profit making corps, although easier said than done when you are not making a profit although if a fair percentage went to increase the business and a fair wage was paid and no shareholders were in place it may just work.

This scene from the Matrix is arguably the most important in the entire movie and explains things rather well:

The control of the dissemination of information is paramount.

This is why the future lies in the hands of the children, explains the huge effort expended in poor education, misdirection, and corruption of young minds.

Q. Is there something in the Bible re: brother against brother in the end times?
It seems I've heard or read that one of the signs of the end times is something about brother against brother, father against son.

A. The Bible clearly teaches that society will degenerate in the end times, becoming as evil as it was in the days of Noah (Matthew 24:37-39). The Apostle Paul, speaking as a prophet, says that society will descend into a black pit of immorality, violence, and paganism (2 Timothy 3:1-5). He asserts that men will be "lovers of self, lovers of money, and lovers of pleasure." People will be "boastful, arrogant, and unholy," and children will be "disobedient to parents."

Sounds like the evening news, doesn't it? In short, we have arrived.
Signs of Coming Persecution

We should be deeply concerned over these developments, not only because we are witnessing the destruction of our beloved America, but because both Jesus and Paul prophesied that when these things occur, the Church will come under attack and individual Christians will be persecuted.

Jesus said that as lawlessness increases, "most people's love will grow cold" (Matthew 24:12). He stated that in this hostile atmosphere, many professing Christians will "fall away" and will proceed to cooperate in the persecution of their former brothers and sisters in Christ (Matthew 24:10). Paul indicates the same thing when he says that people will be "haters of good" and that they will therefore be "brutal" and "reckless," reviling those who stand for righteousness (2 Timothy 3:2-4).

We are watching these prophecies come true today before our very eyes, both here in America and around the world. As our culture has secularized and paganized, Christianity, the Church, and Christians have come under increasing attack as "intolerant bigots." The attacks are going to intensify, and it is going to become increasingly difficult for Christians to stand for righteousness. Jobs will be lost. Careers will be destroyed. Christians will even be sent to prison for speaking out against evils like homosexuality because such pronouncements will be labeled as "hate crimes."

Remain steadfast til the end...let Jesus serve as your shield in the last days!

Be with us Father..

with love...."D"

[EMdevices]

So the US, in partership with the UK and other countries perhaps, set up this global electronic spying network during the cold war, and now have turned it on its own people.  If thats how were going to play than the masses need a system to spy on their government and keep them honest.  I say that every public official who gets elected or applinted needs to wear google glases enabled to transmit video and audio permanantly.  All government buildings need webcams and microphones transmitting live 24/7.  in other words, total transperancy!  i would add tracking chips to them, with constant satelite surveilance, so think twice before runing for office, because your life will become an open book.

[evolvingape]

Don't get distracted by the dog and pony show going on in the media with the face of "government":

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/jun/03/lobbying-row-three-peers-investigated

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2334558/Lord-Laird-resigns-whip-Labour-peers-suspended-claims-broke-parliamentary-rules.html

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/politics/4952368/Lords-of-the-Kerching-three-peers-caught-up-in-lobbying-sleaze-row.html

Sure, total transparency and monitoring of these frontmen would cut down on the brown envelopes changing hands, but it won't stop it. They will just find new off the radar ways to do business. The expansion of the intelligence gathering network to monitor the public is only to be used on the serfs, not the controllers and insiders.

The real criminals are behind the scenes, the hidden hand behind the throne so to speak, and the public have probably never heard of them. This will continue, it is not called a theatre of war for nothing!

This guy is worried about being suicided by the government as a warning to others who might consider blowing the whistle on the agenda...

"He said he was willing to sacrifice a comfortable life "because I can't in good conscience allow the US government to destroy privacy, internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with this massive surveillance machine they're secretly building."

"He acknowledged fears of being "rendered" - summarily detained without due process and taken into secret detention by the CIA or its partners - or taken in for questioning by Chinese authorities."

"And that is a concern I will live with for the rest of my life, however long that happens to be," he said."

The world needs more men like him with the courage to do what they know is right, no matter the personal cost.
