At the age of eighteen in the U.S. Marines he had secret security clearance and was working at Marine Air Control in Atsugi Air Force Base in Japan...
Minor correction: Atsugi was a Naval Air Station (NAS Atsugi) and is now a joint-operations station with both U.S. Navy and Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force personnel onboard. Naval Air Facility Atsugi (NAF Atsugi.)The Marine Corps Air Station in Japan is located at Iwakuni ( MCAS Iwakuni.) There were/are several Air Force Bases throughout Japan, however. Oswald may have actually been at Iwakuni although a small number of Marines then were at Atsugi. There was a regularly scheduled flight several times a week from Atsugi to Iwakuni and back (MARLOG) which, at the time I was there, was a military DC3 piloted by a Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer Aviator.
